trains cinque terre italy

1st trip to Italy?
My husband and I are 17-29 October 2007 to Italy for the 1st time. We are planning on flying to Venice and Rome (or vice versa). I would also go to Tuscany and, possibly, the Cinque Terre. We would like ideas on places to go / stay and how long people stay recommends in the different cities and getting around! We think that to take the train from most places, but have heard we might need a car if you Tuscany and everyone. Thank you!
I was there last June with my boyfriend. We flew to Rome and spent 3 1 / 2 days ago in Trastevere, which was about 20 minutes by train from the Colosseum, Pantheon, etc. It was a 15 minute ride by bus from the Vatican. We stayed in a B & B, which unfortunately does not work as owners moved in Panama City. Rome is great! I'd like to spend more time b / c there are so many things to see. Take time to think outside the box and places to eat when you walk and no one speaks English, but the food is cooked at home and the people are friendly. We spend time in Tuscany, Umbria Region. Our headquarters are Orvieto, a city wallled on the border between the two regions. We stayed in a B & B called Valentina exhausted by none other than the beautiful Valentina. Great local food and entertainment there. Also renting bicycles and walk to the Civita, a city occupied by only a dozen people in their eighties and nineties. It's worth the trip as the journey took us past vineyards and olive groves. Sometimes in this region, however, a car would have been nice B / C there are many small towns that are outside the main distances and buses not go to each one every day. It only took a few days in Florence was wonderful and I would return in the future do some shopping. There is a large central market there with a as wide variety of food and decadent treats! Osteria Congregation was a great place for dinner – one of the best meals of our trip. Venice was hot, humid and full of people, but we were there at the height of tourist season. I would love to return in the fall as you are! It is really beautiful. We spent three days in Cinque Terre I loved my boyfriend but I felt it was a bit long. We stayed in the remote village of Riomaggiore in an apt. with a terrace that we loved (Chambers Edi). There is a way that linking the five towns, so we started the hike in Riomaggiore were just the quarter as people walking severely intensified and the beach is very attractive. If you do hikem Monterosso you can start and go the other way than the way they do the hardest part first when still fresh. The food in Cinque Terre is cool but basic – lots of flat fish, and fish and plain raw fish. But it is fresh and local! Then he went to Milan, see the sights one day, and flew to Milan. We took the train the whole trip. our Bible was the Rick Steve guide Italy 2006. It was very helpful, but keep in mind if Rick Steves not think much space, it is not in the book and I think there are many other places that we liked that was not in his book. You will discover that this is not the only trip to Italy for you. Willl you fall for it. Viva Italia!
