How long to visit Paris + Spain and other cities in the New Year? Not the ideal time, but we have.
Mom + Dad + 2 children Travel College – 2 weeks in Europe – 28 December to 10 January. We do not want to snowboard, or, or participate in winter sports. We're Americans. None of us have ever been to France or Spain (have been kind to Germany, Italy, UK, Ireland and the Netherlands) and have lived abroad for 15 years. A couple of us speak Spanish, but not passable French. We love to travel on trains and boats (and public transport), we like the museums, historic buildings, New Year, then in Barcelona and Madrid, but not sure. How long you must stay in different cities and where to go?
It is approximately 12 days for 4 cities, 3 days in the city, you take away the time spent moving from one to another, and are still 2 1 / 2. This is not enough for Paris and Barcelona and Madrid. The only place you could cut it Avignon, (is smaller), but as you are there for New Year's night, several museums and such will be closed. (I'm not sure but I would be surprised if everything is open.) But what if you have to do with it. (Do not add more cities, as you already buzy schedule.) If you inclined to see France and Spain, only go to one, spend more time in the big city (ie 4 or 5 days, and spend the rest in small towns where you change to go for a walk. Buy a good guide (Lonely Planet: Western Europe or France and Spain) and book hotels in the book. It's holiday time in Europe as well, so to book in advance. 2 * and 3 * hotels are more likely to have personality, 4 * have a good level, but tend to be more uniform. In Paris, Barcelona and Madrid, with a bus tour (perhaps a hop-on hop-off bus that stops at all the benchmarks), and do everything at once. If you want to go to main museums (Museo Louvre, Prada) to be there from the beginning of his second day in town, be cool and people will be less and outside the lines shorter. Make a list with the (other) museums you want, and make sure you have time to go. Many sites in Paris, has opened a time (often much of the night) to verify that all the hours before making their plans for the day. Take your half (the last) day to walk down the main boulevards and see the streets. On Language If you smile when you come, Say Hello (Hello), and if you know a little more French words, trying, but if you speak slowly and clearly most people in Paris are willing to help. I do not speak French, but I have traveled in France many times, never met a rude person. Embarrest I met some people I could not speak a language they could understand, but I've found to deal with is a big help. If you're stuck, have them write, often helps.
