Learning to be a powerful persuasive speaker is like training to run a marathon

After training diligently for more than five months run the marathon in Los Angeles, I can not help but notice the similarities between learning to become a more powerful speaker and how to become a powerful long corridor distance.

1. The first similarity is overcoming fear.

The fear comes from not knowing what to say, what to do or what can happen in a given situation. Most people would never think of running a marathon without training. They have an overwhelming majority, the legitimate fear that without proper preparation appropriate, running 26.2 miles may be damaged severely. They know that the best way to overcome this fear is by practice and training.

Public speaking is no different. It is universally regarded as the number one fear. Yet instead of practicing and training, some people think they can stand before a room full of people with knees touching and giving a speech that delivers results. Highly unlikely.

As in preparation for a marathon, the best way to overcome fear and learn to be a better speaker is to practice. Repeat for an hour every two minutes he will be speaking. Practice in front of his friends, his dog and their Children. Practice in front of someone who will listen and encourage you. This will reduce and eventually eliminate the fear.

2. Get your comfort zone.

Geeezzz, you think I was a runner Natural Born? Think again. I never ran over my life. The first time my coach asked me to reach the end of the block as warming, I laughed. I did anyway. Every day I am more and more. Today, I'm running 25 miles a week and prepares for one of the greatest challenges my physical life, the Los Angeles Marathon, which now will be my third marathon.

How does this relate to speech? Speaking before a group of strangers can be uncomfortable. It may be a stretch for you. Do it anyway. If she feels uncomfortable, you are probably more. Make a little at a time. It begins with a brief presentation of five minutes, as my first race in the end of the block. Work for one minute of speech. Soon you will feel much more comfortable front of a crowd, especially when the harvest of the fruits of their efforts.

3. Inner Game

It is their belief system and stories you say. If I do not think I can finish the marathon in Los Angeles (And believe me, there were moments when I doubt), I trained for five months. Whenever this little voice saying words like "you are too old or if you are out of shape" I told him to shut up and ran even harder. The voice is calm and I'm excited every time I walk the line arrival.

The same applies to the discourse of the indoor game. You say you are a speaker or ugly you say you are the best? " You believe what you say is true or not. Henry Ford said: "If you think you can or think you can not, you're right." Change your language and change the results. Is you saying that you are a powerful and convincing speaker that people like to hear you talk! Soon, and believe it will. You can also cross the finish line with your address and delirium advice. But do not stop, move forward, even if you are afraid, even if not comfortable, change your language and you will win career!
