Model trains: How to convert analog South Pacific 4-4-0 Loco DCC?
Hello everyone, I analog locomotive HO scale 4-4-0 South Pacific to be converted to DCC. I understand basic electronics needed for a car behind the motor encoder, but I still hear horror stories about people constructing the encoder "by the book but have significant vibration problems with the engine running at low speed or stop. Does anyone out there find a good way to build an encoder reduces or eliminates engine vibration? Thank you all for taking the time to read this. Have a good day! Big Al Mintaka
Al, I'm not sure that the house does not need the decoder in a separate car. I model N scale, and although I only use DCC not many of my friends do. I saw the size of decoders available today and a Digitrax DN140 fit in almost anywhere. If I remember correctly, is the size of a dime or smaller! This is very easy to conceal within his tender. As for the vibration under consideration, I have never heard of a decoder that cause. As of miniatures, we all know how is delicate steam locomotive are. Even with great precautions, sometimes things. When you take these apart for any reason, it is extremely important to take extra precautions with extreme attention to detail to make steam operation, once completed. I can only conclude that during the "process of top-Fit", a minor detail has been slightly altered causing a vibration. Hope this helps … Yahoo mail is checked if you want to contact me … good luck
